Varsity Sports host fundraiser for Baton Rouge restaurant owner for cancer treatment [Video]

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The community is lacing up their shoes to support the owner of Zeeland Street Market.

Stephanie Phares has been a business owner and chef for 35 years. She was recently diagnosed with Stage 3A lung cancer.

“Anyone that walks in the door becomes a friend. I’ve touched lives and now they’re able to call me back, write me notes,” said Phares.

Her long-time friend and owner of Varsity Sports, Jenni Peters, hosts a weekly run club. When she learned of Phares’ diagnosis, the group decided this would be the perfect fundraising event.

On Thursday, dozens of family, friends and business owners will be walking or running several miles to show love and support for Phares.
