Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance visited the U.S.-Mexico border Thursday and repeated claims that Vice President Kamala Harris was responsible for illegal crossings, crime caused by migrants and fentanyl deaths, part of a GOP strategy to tie Harris to what they say is the current administration’s failings on immigration.
Vance traveled to the southern border in Arizona and spoke briefly to reporters alongside Cochise County Sheriff Bob Watkins and former border patrol leaders.
The junior senator from Ohio, who is attempting to regain his footing on the trail after a rocky rollout, used the event to hammer Harris over her record on the border, which Republicans have focused as a line of attack since she became the presumptive Democrat presidential nominee.
