Utah group to host Great Salt Lake vigils outside state Capitol [Video]

SALT LAKE CITY — Throughout the 2025 Utah legislative session, the Making Waves Artist Collaborative will hold several Great Salt Lake vigils in support of the threatened lake.

They are hosting the events in partnership with Youth Coalition for Great Salt Lake and Save Our Great Salt Lake, according to a press release.

Beginning on Jan. 21, Making Waves will host Walk the Waves every Monday through Thursday until March 6. Beginning at 8 a.m., the hour-long vigil will consist of walking around the Utah State Capitol grounds.

Participants will hold “giant blue and white cyanotype waves” as they walk in silence, according to the press release. At the end of the procession, they will sing.

Making Waves Artist Collaborative said the vigils are a tribute to the “human and beyond-human ancestors” of the lake.
