WASHINGTON — An iconic D.C. bar is asking for help from the community to keep its doors open. Uproar Lounge and Restaurant on Florida Avenue in Northwest has been a place of refuge for members of the District’s LGBTQIA+ community for more than nine years. Now, ownership says rising insurance and rent costs are threatening to close the business ahead of WorldPride 2025.
On its Instagram page, the business shared a link to an online fundraiser for those wishing to help. So far, it has raised more than $3,000 and has set a goal of raising $100,000.
The business says because of the unexpected costs, it is struggling to make rent and pay utility costs through the winter.
