UPDATE: South Union shooting leaves 21-year-old man dead Sunday [Video]

South Union Street is open for traffic, as police continue the investigation.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines police responded to a shooting at a residence Sunday afternoon. 

DMPD and the Des Moines Fire Department responded to the 3400 block of South Union St. around 1:40 p.m. 

First responders found a 21-year-old man suffering from gunshot injuries, according to a DMPD press release. The man was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he later died, officials say.

According to a DMPD post, the suspect fled on foot from the scene, but they were able to recover one firearm.

South Union Street is open for traffic, as police continue the investigation.

Sunday’s shooting will be the city’s 8th homicide this year.

Police believe there is no ongoing threat to the neighborhood.
