UPDATE: MASON CITY, Iowa. (KIMT)– A structure fire broke out at Mason City Recycling, located at 16615 245th Street, at approximately 8:08 p.m. on Friday evening.

According to a press release shared by the Mason City Fire Department, the fire was initially reported by a passerby, and emergency crews quickly responded to the scene. Upon arrival, fire crews encountered an active fire inside a large building, but fortunately, no one was present at the business at the time of the incident.

The absence of nearby fire hydrants presented a significant challenge for firefighting efforts, requiring water to be shuttled to the scene. In addition, cold temperatures and strong North/Northwest winds exacerbated the situation, causing the flames to spread to outdoor equipment and surrounding grass areas.
