LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — University of Louisville students, faculty and staff came together Wednesday to complete service projects in the Parkland neighborhood as part of homecoming week.

The project is led by the Office of Community Engagement.

For about four hours, dozens of volunteers mulched the Parkland Plaza, planted trees and cleaned up litter.

Volunteers also sealed and stained a wheelchair ramp for an elderly homeowner. And, they made meals for Dare-to-Care.

Dr. Douglas Craddock, UofL’s Vice President of Community Engagement, said it gets them connected with others in the community they wouldn’t get to know in the university landscape.

“The neighborhood is really close to the university. It’s also a neighborhood that’s kinda been forgotten,” Craddock said. “Getting faculty, staff, and students out here to do impactful work and to not just say we are in the community, but of the community, is important to us.”
