LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Student journalists at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln got the chance to practice the real thing this week, with media days for high school basketball teams.
At the College of Journalism and Mass Communications, organizers gathered eight boys and girls teams from eastern Nebraska to participate in a gauntlet of media coverage.
Students put on press conferences live streamed on UNL’s Nebraska News Service, conducted interviews for podcasts and the student radio station, and held photoshoots with players.
The event wasn’t just about preparing for upcoming high school basketball season, but gave student reporters the chance to practice local sports coverage.
Lexi Shellhammer, a sophomore double majoring in Sports Media and Advertising & Public Relations, said there were plenty of opportunities for experience in journalism, sports and TV news.
