University of North Dakota opens National Security Corridor [Video]

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Valley News Live) – It’s a new chapter for the University of North Dakota. Monday, the Mark and Claudia Thompson National Security Corridor opened.

Located in the University’s Harrington Hall, the corridor is $14 million and several years in the making. It’s to help advance research and workforce development fields like space studies, computing and unmanned aircraft systems.

“Well, certainly the growing interest in anything digital is a big one. So whether it’s cyber security, or data science, or artificial intelligence, UND is well positioned to make contributions both in the commercial sector but also both in the security center of national defense,” said University President Dr. Andrew Armacost.

There are multiple labs in the corridor like environmental testing and satellite fabrication. Computer Science PhD student Vig Parameshwar will help build a radar and satellite that will go into space as part of his thesis project.
