HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — The United Way of Horry County is kicking off its 24th annual Day of Caring on Friday in Conway, looking to serve two community organizations.
The United Way’s first Day of Caring was in September 2000, and hundreds of volunteers are still giving back.
“Day of Caring started in the early 2000s as a way to get community members more involved,” said Heather Downing, marketing and events manager at United Way of Horry County. “It helps nonprofits and other agencies with work when they were needing help, so they weren’t tied up with projects and held back from who they can serve.”
Every year, United Way of Horry County officials said they look for an organization that needs help with a new project. People can contact them about a project, and they will review it to see how they can serve the community.
