PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – DAWN Inc., a Ukrainian support charity, hosted its second annual Ukrainian Winterfest Thursday night.
Dozens of community members gathered at Portland’s Christ United Methodist Church to indulge in traditional Ukrainian foods, music, and performances.
DAWN is an Oregon-based public charity “dedicated to preserving Ukraine’s cultural heritage, providing essential medical aid, promoting mental health, and protecting the environment.”
The purpose of their Ukrainian Winterfest is to celebrate cultural holiday traditions and raise funds for the Ukrainian front in the war against Russia.
Since Russia’s invasion in 2022, DAWN Inc. has been sending suitcases full of medical aid to Ukraine.
When DAWN president Yulia Brockdorf makes the deliveries overseas, she also provides psychotherapy to the soldiers on the frontline.
She said this year the war in Ukraine has gone unnoticed by some.
