UCSD students honor Martin Luther King Jr. with day of service [Video]

SAN DIEGO — In celebration of the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, dozens of students and staff members from the University of California San Diego (UCSD) participated in a day of service at John Muir Language Academy in Clairemont on Friday. The volunteers helped build a community garden and engaged in classroom activities with the school’s students.

The event, organized by UCSD’s Changemaker Institute, aimed to create positive change in the community, reflecting Dr. King’s mission. Victoria Abrenica, a UCSD staff member, explained the importance of timing the visit during school hours: “We wanted to make sure that we were here while class is in session…so we wanted to make sure we’re here during school hours, and then make sure that it was something that the kids were able to really connect with.”
