U.S. swimmer qualifies for the Olympics, gets marriage proposal after race [Video]

INDIANAPOLIS – Swimmer Lily King scored a medal and an engagement ring after qualifying for the summer Olympics Thursday night.

King finished second in the 200-meter breaststroke at the U.S. Olympic trials at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, qualifying for the games in Paris starting next month.

After finishing the race, King’s boyfriend, James Wells, knelt down and proposed to her. NBC News shared a video of the special moment on social media.

“Over the last four years, both in and out of the pool, just seeing you grow has been so awesome,” Wells told King before kneeling to propose.

King laughed and fixed her hair after it had been in a swim cap. She was seen wearing her engagement ring during the medal ceremony Thursday night.

The 27-year-old has won five Olympic medals swimming breaststroke for Team USA since her first games in 2016.
