The improvements eliminated elevation differences between the eastbound and westbound driving lanes and reduced slopes to improve driver sight distances. With paved shoulders and improved drainage, the stretch of highway is designed for safer travel.
Weather permitting, the two-year reconstruction of two miles of U.S. Highway 20 and reconfiguration of a major interchange east of the city should be finished by the holiday.
