U of I closing cultural center [Video]

The school announced it will be closing the center at the end of the 2024 fall semester and the website will be deactivated after the winter break.

MOSCOW, Idaho — The University of Idaho has announced it will be closing its Black and African American Cultural Center (BAACC) at the end of the year. 

“The decision to close this center, despite its impact and influence on our students, staff, faculty, and community at large, brings great sadness,” said the Director of the center, Mario Pile.

The center’s website will also be deactivated after the winter break.

As KTVB reported on Dec. 18, the Idaho State Board of Education (ISBOE) passed a resolution that bans offices that promote DEI Ideology on college campuses. The resolution is called the “Resolutions on DEI Ideology,” which defines DEI Ideology as “any approach that prioritizes personal identity characteristics over individual merit.”
