HONOLULU (ISLAND NEWS) – The Army has a new Native Hawaiian two-star general. Lance Okamura was promoted recently and is one of just a few Native Hawaiians to ever hold that rank in the United States Army. He gave us an exclusive interview about his new role.
When asked about being a role model for other Hawaiians, he said, “I have honestly never viewed myself as a role model because I still have an immense amount of learning and growing to do no matter how old I may be. I’ve always just viewed myself as a simple servant and supporter to our nation and to the people of Hawaii.”
