Two pedestrians recovering after being struck by vehicle in Nags Head [Video]

The victims were airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and are expected to survive.

NAGS HEAD, N.C. — Two pedestrians are recovering after being struck by a vehicle in Nags Head on Friday.

The incident happened at 5:38 p.m. at 7228 South Virginia Dare Trail, according to a press release from the town’s public information officer, Roberta Thuman.

The victims were identified as residents of Sunbury, N.C., and are 71 and 69 years old, the press release stated. They were airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. They were expected to survive as of Saturday morning, the release stated.

Thuman said witness statements, officer analysis and video evidence confirm the couple was using the designed crosswalk at the time.

The driver, a 63-year-old woman from Columbia, N.C., was cited for failure to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk. Thuman stated there is no indication that speed or impairment were factors in …
