Two investigated for Clay County construction site theft [Video]

LIBERTY, Mo. — Clay County deputies arrested two people they believe may be connected to thousands of dollars worth of stolen materials and tools from a subdivision construction site near 115th and Plattsburg Rd.

“Two or three times a year, we see construction site thefts. Sometimes, they target copper and metals, but this was large pieces of siding, soffit, and lumber; some were 10-feet long,” said Sarah Boyd, Public Relations Manager for the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

“So, it’s not like they were just sneaking a few little things out of there. It’s very large, so it had to take some work, loading and unloading.”

The first theft happened on June 19. Over $3,000 worth of siding, soffit, and lumber disappeared from the subdivision construction site.

On July 9th, someone stole around $1,500 worth of materials and caused other damage.

Clay County deputies started extra patrols in the area.
