Two emergency sites for unhoused families set to open Nov. 1 [Video]

In Waterbury on Wednesday evening, the Waterbury Select Board will hold a special meeting to discuss the state’s plans to open an emergency shelter for “Hotel-Motel” families at the Waterbury Armory.This follows the state’s announcement a few weeks ago that it was looking to set up family shelters in Williston, Waterbury, Montpelier and Rutland.Williston leaders said they had been in contact with the state weeks before the announcement, but it was a different story in Waterbury. Officials in Waterbury said they only heard from the state on Monday for the first time.”It wasn’t until Monday when I was 100% reassured that it was going to happen, because in the intervening time, I had a couple of conversations that seemed like the state was still struggling to perhaps make it work, but now we know they are,” said Tom Leitz, Waterbury’s municipal manager.It’s one of a few things they’re hoping to …
