Tucson wins big grant for manufactured home residents [Video]

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The saga of housing affordability in the Tucson area got a nudge in favor of some of its most vulnerable residents.

Tucson is one of just 17 recipients of a Preservation and Reinvestment Initiatives for Community Enhancement, or “PRICE” grant. There were 175 applications across the country.

The announcement of an $11.5 million federal grant became emotional for Tucson Mayor Regina Romero.

The grant from HUD will focus on manufactured homes, which is something that remains affordable for many, and a living situation Romero explained that she knows firsthand.

“I am one of the many single mothers who live in mobile homes due to my low income and it’s important to note, because they are affordable housing, these are also old units that require a lot of repairs and renovations,” Sandra Alvarez said in Spanish to a room full of people in a Tucson City …
