Tucson Unified School District unveils new African-American Hub [Video]

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The Tucson Unified School District unveiled its new African-American Hub at Utterback Middle School on Monday, July 29.

TUSD starts its school year off in a couple of days and the goal behind the Hub is to bring families and the community together.

“I am very happy with this. This is good. This is truly good,” said community member Joyce Green.

Hugs, handshakes, and conversations … the new African American Hub was already bringing families together.

“I think people need to come together. Community is very important,” said Minnette Powell, an attendee of the ribbon cutting. “You want to see people who look like you and people who can relate to you. People who don’t know anything about you can come and be welcomed and learn about different cultures.”

The new space consists of three different rooms that will be used for classes about everything …
