President-elect Donald Trump has selected celebrity physician Dr. Mehmet Oz to head the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
In a press release, Trump expressed that Dr. Oz would work alongside Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who Trump nominated to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), to fight the “illness industrial complex” and address chronic diseases. CMS, which is part of HHS, oversees Medicare, Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act marketplaces, providing healthcare coverage to more than 155 million Americans.
In the same press release, Trump highlighted the surgeon’s academic and professional achievements, noting that the doctor graduated from Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania and won nine Daytime Emmy awards for the Dr. Oz Show.
