Trainsong community shows abundance of support against biofuel facility | News [Video]

A biofuel transfer facility initially was planning on opening near the neighborhood.

EUGENE, Ore. – December 17th was the final day community members could give feedback on the controversial biofuel facility in the Trainsong neighborhood.

Located next to the main train yard, community members loudly voiced their opposition to the project.

Texas based USD Clean Fuels is trying to build a Bio-Fuels Transfer Facility where fuel would be loaded off of railcars and into semi-trucks. Those trucks will then drive along Bethel Dr. with an estimated 40-trucks per day.

The excessive number of trucks is bringing back reminders of previous industrial incidents in Eugene to residents and those opposed to the project.

Lisa Arkin is the Executive Director for Environmental Advocacy Group Beyond Toxics. Arkin said she thinks of the potential of the facility becoming a similar situation to the disgraced J.H. Baxter facility.
