Townsville has appointed a new acting mayor, marking the Queensland city’s third mayor in less than a month.
She was elected unopposed while acting mayor Paul Jacob stood down.
“The last seven months have proven to be quite a tumultuous time for council, and I’m looking forward to leading with stability,” Greaney said.
“I think the councillors as a whole wanted to see a little more leadership in that role.”
Ousted deputy major Jacob described the leadership spill as “destroying trust with councillors and the community”.
Liberal MP for Thuringowa Natalie Marr told 9News locals have every right to be wary of the chaos within the chambers of local government.
“It’s embarrassing for the residents to feel they have a council that is not functioning,” Marr said.
“This has been going on for far too long.”
