CNN political commentators Scott Jennings and Catherine Rampell went at it yet again on Monday night during a heated segment about the agreements President Donald Trump struck with Mexico and Canada to avoid a trade war earlier in the day.
Trump had originally promised to enforce enormous tariffs against both countries but reached deals with Mexico’s president and Canada’s prime minister to delay their implementation for another month while they discuss long-term solutions for securing their respective borders with the United States.
Jennings and Rampell disagreed vociferously about whether the agreements constituted a victory for Trump or not.
After Jennings touted the agreements as evidence that America’s two neighbors couldn’t “pussyfoot around anymore” when it comes to helping address the fentanyl and border crises, Rampell mocked him the idea that Trump had achieved anything of consequence.
