Top law enforcers discuss local police procedures following Sonya Masseys death [Video]

BLOOMINGTON (25News Now) – The City of Bloomington’s Public Safety and Community Relations Board (PSCRB) invited police chiefs from Bloomington, Normal, Illinois State University, and the McLean County Sheriff to discuss police procedures, from the hiring process down to residency requirements.

Concerns about how police officers are hired, trained, and maintained come after 36-year-old Sonya Massey lost her life at the hands of a Sangamon County sheriff’s deputy in July.

Residents were invited to ask questions and have conversations with all four department leaders to prevent situations like Massey’s from happening in Central Illinois.

“Do we always do it right? We don’t, and that’s why we’re all here today, but I know that everybody sitting here at this table has nothing but the best intentions for this community,” said Normal Police Chief Steven Petrilli.
