PHOENIX (AZFamily) — These are the local races being closely watched for the 2024 general election for communities in the West Valley. Population growth and changing demographics are fueling big changes for the region.
Buckeye
Prop 481 would allow Southwest Gas to gain access to streets, alleys and public property in Buckeye city limits to provide natural gas service in what’s called a “franchise agreement.” In exchange, the company will provide Buckeye with 2% of gross revenues the utility provider makes within the city.
Glendale
Prop 499, if passed, would require large hotel and event center workers to receive a $20 per hour minimum wage, up from $5.65 per hour. It could also rise up to $40 per hour per shift.
The measure also establishes working condition laws in Glendale, like employees can’t work more than 10 hours per day without written permission and places restrictions on how many rooms attendants can clean.
