TikTok banned, Supreme Court says: Missouri creators brace | Mid-Missouri News [Video]

COLUMBIA — After the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a ban on TikTok Friday, Missourians who use the app to make videos — and income — are bracing for the social media giant to go dark. 

A bipartisan majority in Congress voted to approve the TikTok ban last year after lawmakers raised concerns that China has too much control over the app. ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, is based in China. 

Even after the Supreme Court’s decision, it’s unclear what the future of TikTok looks like. The ban is set to go in effect on Sunday, one day before President-elect Donald Trump takes office. The Biden administration signaled it will not take any action to enforce the law on Sunday, NBC News reports. 

Trump has indicated he may take action to keep the app available.
