HARRISBURG, Pa. — With a potential TikTok ban hanging in the air, users are anxiously searching for alternatives as the fate of the popular app remains in legal limbo. Despite the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the ban, its implementation hinges on presidential enforcement.
The Biden administration has indicated it will not enforce the ban, which is set to take effect Sunday. President-elect Donald Trump has expressed interest in negotiating a new deal once he takes office.
“We will put measures in place to keep TikTok from going dark,” stated Mike Waltz, National Security Advisor nominee. “The legislation allows for an extension as long as a viable deal is on the table.”
Amid this uncertainty, cybersecurity officials like Scott Davis with the Cybersecurity Association of Pennsylvania, warn that users’ attempts to navigate the situation may expose them to additional risks.
