Thunderstorms with damaging winds in Mobile County Monday [Video]

On Monday at 1:25 a.m. a severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the National Weather Service in effect until 2 a.m. for Mobile County.

Residents should be prepared for wind gusts of up to 60 mph.

“At 1:25 a.m., a severe thunderstorm was located 5 miles southeast of Leakesville, moving southeast at 35 mph,” according to the weather service. “Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.”

Locations impacted by the warning include Leakesville, Chunchula, Gulfcrest and Wilmer.

According to the weather service, “For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Damaging wind and continuous cloud to ground lightning are occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature’s leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.”
