Thicker clouds could hang around through Tuesday afternoon in Portland; high 74 [Video]

Portland will wake to thick cloud cover Tuesday morning that may linger well into the afternoon.

The National Weather Service expects clouds to slowly dissipate from southeast to northeast throughout the morning and early afternoon, but some areas could continue to see cloudy skies into the evening especially north and east of the Portland metro area.

The clouds are courtesy of an upper level trough that will move through Oregon and Washington on Tuesday keeping temperatures well below average.

Portland’s skies will be mostly cloudy, and the high temperature will only hit about 74 degrees.

A week ridge of high pressure builds over the region Tuesday night and will help clear skies on Wednesday. Portland will see a sunny day, and high temps should warm to about 80 degrees.

Winds are expected to shift back onshore, westerly to northwesterly, Wednesday afternoon as a new system approaches the region.
