SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Residents impacted by the Big Sioux River flood are speaking out three months after floodwaters swamped their homes.
“It’s been the longest three months of my life,” said Deanna Mercure, a Riverside resident.
After the Big Sioux River flooded back in June, residents in Sioux City’s Riverside neighborhood are still in the process of building their homes from the ground up.
“I’ve lived in this house for 21 years, never had this flood like this and I lost everything in my house, floors, walls, and it was just devastating,” said Mercure.
With help from volunteers, the Community Action Agency of Siouxland and the Junior League of Sioux City, Mercure, Jeanne Derby and many other residents from the area got the support they needed to try and have a normal life.
