The heart of the Hub Citys history [Video]

ABERDEEN, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The Hub City is a righteous name for Aberdeen.

At one point, four different train lines came through the area and connected the community to the rest of the nation.

On July 6, 1881, the first train arrived.

The brick Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad Depot building was opened in what is now downtown Aberdeen in 1911 after a few wooden structures burnt down.

Although its passenger service is no longer, it still serves an office building not only for the freight lines fueling Aberdeen’s economy, but local businesses as well

At the hub of the railroad lines now stands Aberdeen. Dacotah Prairie Museum Director Patricia Kendall said the railroad was crucial to Aberdeen’s inception.

Aberdeen and most of the towns in Brown County were determined by the railroads that came in. The Chicago, Milwaukee, Saint Paul. The president at the time was Alexander Mitchell. He was from Aberdeen, Scotland. …
