The Harmar Bridge gets one step closer to restoration [Video]

MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) — The Harmar Bridge Company has been raising funds over the years to begin restoring the bridge and pedestrian walkway. The walkway closed to the public in 2020 due to unsafe conditions, and now a two-million-dollar grant has been applied for.

“We applied for an ATIIP grant from the federal government looking for money that can be used for designs and engineering costs, associated also with coming up with a final design construction ready for the Harmar bridge, the pedestrian bridge,” said Geoff Schenkel, Community Development Director.

Schenkel expressed he has been waiting on the restoration of the bridge since 1984, but now Harmar Village is getting closer and closer each year to having funds to repair the bridge and the walkway.
