How one woman’s fever dream led to building the Great Swan Peace Cathedral.
LOWER LAKE, Calif. — People find peace in many ways, but for Candace Stolley peace came in the form of a vision while fighting illness from a liver condition.
“This is what I saw. I saw a forest of spires shooting up in the vision, so that’s what I did,” said Stolley.
“This is a nonsectarian temple. I’ve had a master, but I think everyone is spiritual. Everyone has their own relationship with the divine and I want to serve that,” said Stolley.
Stolley is an artist and with the help of her late husband, Lawrence Stolley, they slowly started building a spiritual artist haven in 1979. Many of the sculptures and structures are made from natural materials like mud straw and lots of recycled metal.
