About 41% of women and 26% of men experienced contact sexual violence, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
“The vigil is to honor those who have lost their lives to domestic violence, and to show our support to their families. With domestic violence being so increasing in the last couple of years, we really just wanted to have something special,” said Crystal Torres, the program supervisor at the Domestic Violence Intervention Center.
Torres said the event will include a speaker, prayer and a lighting of the candles. Attendees are encouraged to wear purple to honor the memory of those that have died.
