MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) – The Anchorage held a Christmas Open House so the public could tour the building.
The house was built in 1859 by Douglas Putnam for his wife, Eliza. Eliza only lived in the house for three years before dying of an illness of the heart. When Douglas died, the home changed ownership multiple times over the years.
Karita Miller, one of the owners of Hidden Marietta Tour Company, explains how the Anchorage came under ownership of the Washington County Historic Society.
The house has held a Christmas open house for the past three years. The public could tour the house and see what the house would have looked like when the Putnams lived there.
Andrew Goodnite, the chair of the Anchorage Committee, said the event is an opportunity to connect with the community.
