Thats not safeparents, community react to 7-year-old bringing gun to elementary school [Video]

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Memphis police received a call around 9 a.m. about a 7-year-old who brought a gun to Evans Elementary School on Cottonwood Road.

The following notice went out to parents and students:

However, one parent says that she was confused as to what the school was talking about because they never specified that a kid brought a gun on campus.

“That’s not safe for no child at all but especially kids this young,” Briana Paulette, a concerned guardian, shared, “I don’t [think] that’s okay that no one was notified.”

“At this point, I feel like they are lacking their job,” one anonymous person added, “they are not doing what they are supposed to do as a staff to keep the kids”

According to an email sent to parents and faculty, the school’s no backpack policy will be in effect for the remainder of the school year.
