A petition to make the Texas A&M University campus more bird friendly was submitted to Texas A&M President Mark A. Welsh III on Wednesday by numerous groups including the Rio Brazos Audubon Society, Audubon Texas and the Texas Conservation Alliance.
The Eagle obtained a copy of the petition, which represented 20 organizations including the departments of Ecology and Conservation Biology, Rangeland, Wildlife and Fisheries management and the office of sustainability and campus enrichment at Texas A&M.
The petition called on the president to implement bird-friendly building designs and lighting practices.
“Together, we can lead by example and create a safer environment for our birds while fostering a culture of environmental stewardship within our campus community,” the petition stated. “We are optimistic that with your support, we can significantly reduce the impact of our buildings on bird populations and further advance our university’s commitment to sustainability.”
