Tensions erupted and exploded at a Port of New Orleans meeting Thursday. People who live and work in the Lower 9th Ward and Holy Cross neighborhoods are outraged over a $30 million grain terminal project on the Alabo Street Wharf.They are concerned their neighborhood will deteriorate. There’s major concern about pollution, noise from trains and property values tanking. People said they felt they were being sold down the river. Two people were kicked out of the meeting. “Shame on you,” a woman shouted while escorted out. “Do better with your position of power,” a woman said. Sunrise Foods has plans to open a new grain terminal at the Alabo Street Wharf by the summer, with weekly shipments of corn, soybeans, and other grains.
