Temple Historical Society struck by vehicle in hit-and-run crash [Video]

TEMPLE, Maine — The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the driver of a vehicle that crashed into the Temple Historical Society building on Wednesday.

Officials don’t know exactly when it happened, but at some point during the day a vehicle struck the building after failing to negotiate the corner of Day Mountain Road and Intervale Road, the sheriff’s office said Thursday in a press release.

The driver left the scene and never reported the crash to law enforcement, the sheriff’s office said.

The section of building that was hit was the old Post Office, built in 1811, according to the release. The building sustained significant damage.

“We believe the vehicle that hit the building was a pickup truck, Jeep or similar size vehicle due to the height of the damage,” the sheriff’s office said.
