PHOENIX (AZFamily) —Tempers were boiling during Friday’s school board meeting at Cartwright Elementary in Phoenix.
The board is made up of 5 members, including the board president, Lydia Hernandez, and her daughter, Cassandra Hernandez, who serves along with her.
Two other board members, Jennifer Romero and Denice Garcia, both shared concern about the family pair being on the board together. They aren’t alone; dozens of community members who packed the meeting on Friday shared the same sentiment.
Jennifer Romero, who was newly elected to the board, says she’s been trying to get the school district‘s attorney to look into the issue to see if it’s legal for the family to be on the board together, but can’t unless she has board majority.
“That was ignored and so I will be bringing it up at every meeting where we are allowed to bring up agenda items and I will keep pushing for that,” said Romero.
