ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU/Gray News) – Authorities are investigating the death of a teenager found on a powerline trail in Alaska.
Alaska State Troopers reported the body of 16-year-old Alena Toennis was found on a powerline trail in Wasilla, Alaska, early Friday morning.
The Alaska Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case. They are investigating it as a suspicious death due to the evidence found at the scene.
Crystal Drake Toennis, Alena’s aunt, posted on social media saying Alena’s body was found behind a business in the area of Seldon and Bogard Roads.
A spokesperson for the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District confirmed that Toennis was a former student in the district before dropping out last year. Her family confirmed the last school she was enrolled in was Mat-Su Central School.
Alaska State Troopers have not responded to a request for comment.
