Teen missing while playing in Willamette River at Riverview Park [Video]

The teen disappeared underwater while playing in the Willamette River near Riverview Park, according to the Independence Police Department.

INDEPENDENCE, Ore — A search is underway for a teen who went missing while playing in the Willamette River at Riverview Park on Sunday afternoon, according to the Independence Police Department.

Around 5:07 p.m., Polk County Fire District No. 1 and Independence police responded to reports of a teen who disappeared underwater, a social media post stated.

Riverview Park was closed during the rescue operation in hopes of finding the teen. Officials asked the public to avoid the area until further notice.

As of 11 p.m., there had been no updates on if the teen was found.
