HINTON, Iowa — A South Sioux City teenager faces a felony charges after he climbed the broadcast tower of Sioux City TV station KCAU Thursday, resulting in a multi-agency response.
At around 11:04 a.m. Thursday, the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to a person attempting to climb the KCAU tower in rural Plymouth County, the sheriff’s office said in a press release.
On arrival a deputy found the teen had climbed to roughly 1,500 feet, and assistance was requested from multiple agencies.
Sioux City Fire Rescue began an aerial rescue at around 12:30 p.m., and shortly after 1 p.m. the teen and all personnel were off the tower. A portion of County Road K42 near the tower was closed during the rescue operation.
KCAU’s broadcast signal was cut for a time during the rescue.
