KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Swope Park is getting an $8.5 million facelift.
On Friday, Mayor Quinton Lucas, Mayor Pro Tem Ryana Parks-Shaw, and Councilman Darrell Curls held a press conference talking about the upgrades and what’s to come.
The $4.25 million of this investment came from a federal grant made possible through the outdoor recreation legacy partnership. It gives money to locally-led projects to create new city parks or spruce up existing outdoor spaces.
The city is matching that $4.25 million.
Some of the upgrades will go toward a new neighborhood connection trail, a new 10,000-square-foot inclusive destination playground, upgrades to the bandstand, the five shelters, and bike and pedestrian lanes.
“We want to make sure that while Swope Park is here to enjoy, everybody can feel safe,” Lucas said. “We hope that these improvements encourage Kansas Citians of all ages to come to not just Kansas City’s park but the region park.”
