“Together, our team has developed a pilot concept for an iOS app called Swell. Designed to empower individuals to improve their holistic well-being, Swell helps users foster an intentional connection with water by incorporating the ocean into their daily lives. Based on research in behavior change methodologies, ecological principles, and the Blue Mind Theory which highlights the positive effects of water on human health, Swell was developed to “bring the ocean” to Gen Z populations residing in urban ocean cities who perceive a lack of access to coastal environments, while simultaneously expanding app users’ understanding of the ocean’s critical role in furthering the health of our planet.”
