Margate’s Green Team were recognized at the recent Sustainable Jersey annual award luncheon at the Sheraton Convention Center Hotel in Atlantic City.
Sherri Lilienfeld, a well-known real estate broker with a background in chemical engineering authored the initial Construction Pollution Ordinance for Margate.

Lilienfeld has been working closely with Stephen Jasiecki, Chairman of Sustainable Margate to promote this ordinance through-out the state of New Jersey. Both accepted the award on behalf of Sustainable Margate.
Lilienfeld: We were alarmed that contractors didn’t realize the health and environmental hazards they were creating. There was no municipal oversight. Virtually no enforcement.
Sherri Lilienfeld: We addressed this with Margate government to see how they can update the building codes to include containment and cleanup measures.
It’s not just plastic and microplastic materials that are a problem from construction sites, it’s also fiberglass, silica dust, styro-foam and other contaminants entering our bays, ocean, air, food and bodies.
