CLEVELAND — A Shelby police officer fatally shot a suspect man after the suspect stabbed the officer in the neck, police say.
According to a press release from the Shelby Police Department, Sergeant Noah Kocher is in stable condition after the attack. The suspect, Tyler Jacobs, was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Around 11:18 p.m. Saturday, Kocher and another officer, Dominic Ewing, attempted to serve Jacobs a Shelby Municipal Court warrant at an Arby’s restaurant on Mansfield Avenue. Police said that after the officers made contact and told Jacobs of the warrant, the suspect stabbed Kocher with a knife.
After Kocher was able to separate himself from Jacobs, the suspect ran toward Kocher with his knife still in hand, police say. Kocher drew his weapon and fired, hitting Jacobs.
