Survey: Americans concerned about how companies use AI [Video]

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Artificial intelligence, or AI, has been quickly evolving.

A national survey by consumer watchdog Consumer Reports found out how people feel about AI and how it’s influencing decision-making, affecting shopping, housing, employment and health care.

This 10-page report goes in-depth. Here are some of the highlights.

The survey found a majority of Americans are uncomfortable about the use of AI and algorithmic decision-making.

When Americans were asked how they would view it if a company used AI or algorithms to make decisions about what products or services to offer, about one-third of Americans were unsure. That was the most common response.

Consumer Reports asked Americans how they feel about price discrimination or “personalized pricing.” Nearly half (47%) said they strongly oppose that practice. Another 19% somewhat opposed it, and 26% neither supported nor opposed.
